My primary research interests are in contact mechanics. The evolution of nano-scale interfaces in repeated mechanical contact is not well understood. A specific application of my interests is nanoelectromechanical (NEM) switches and their failure. When the contact is given the increasing complexity of a running current, the state of the contact becomes an even more challenging and intriguing problem.
