We’re excited to share that Mateus da Silva Cardoso has been awarded the Philadelphia Section STLE Scholarship for 2025! This $2,000 scholarship is presented by the Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers to recognize outstanding students in the field. Mateus is the second member of the Carpick lab to receive this award in 2025, following Pezhman Palahang.

As a result of this award, Mateus was invited to present his work at the STLE Philadelphia Section meeting, where he presented on February 19th. The award was also featured in the March edition of Tribology & Lubrication Technology.
Mateus’s recognition highlights his strong commitment to research and academic excellence, as well as the impact of his contributions to the tribology community. He was chosen from a competitive group of applicants, and we’re delighted to see his work acknowledged in this way.
Mateus would like to thank all his friends in the Carpick group for all their help and support, and a special thanks to his advisor, Prof. Robert Carpick, for his constant mentorship and support. He also thanks the STLE Philadelphia Section for this honor.
Congratulations, Mateus!
