Research

My research focuses on bringing down the boundary between engineering and biology through application of contact and interfacial mechanics, soft matter physics, and friction and wear to traditional biological problems at molecular and micro- and macro- length scales. Current projects involve:
  • Magnetorheological elastomers and gels which dynamically and reversibly change mechanical and surface properties with the application of a magnetic field
  • Bespoke rough surfaces to guide mesenchymal stem cell and cardio muscle and connective cell behavior, migration, and mechanotransduction
  • Friction and lubricity of thing gel coatings on soft substrates for skin-to-skin interaction and drug delivery
