Dr. Cangyu Qu’s Study on Tribochemistry in NEMS Published in ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces
We’re excited to share that Dr. Cangyu Qu’s recent study has been selected as a cover article in ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces.

This work studies how tribochemistry limits the lifetime of nano-electeo-mechanical systems, and how mechanics enables accurate models to describe this process. The figure shows airborne organic contaminant molecules adsorb onto the surfaces of a platinum AFM tip and substrate. The sliding tip applies stress and voltage to molecules trapped at the interface, triggering mechanochemical reactions to convert them into deposits known as tribopolymers. The image was generated using an AI-assisted design (Sora).
