2022 NSF REU student and 2nd year Penn State University chemistry student, Kueyoung Kim, was a awarded first place in the Eberly College of Science research poster competition physical science division. Kueyoung presented on work he conducted in the Carpick research group to investigate Diels-Alder cycloaddition using shear stress.

Kueyoung Kim, a rising 2nd year in Chemistry at Penn State University, won Honorable Mention for his poster presentation at the Singh Center for Nanotechnology NSF Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) symposium. PhD Candidate, Lu Fang, was one of two students awarded “Best Student Poster” at the 2022 Gordon Research Conference on Tribology. The title of her award-winning poster was “Spatially-resolved mechanochemistry: Taking advantage of contact mechanics to understand how forces drive ZDDP tribofilm formation”.

Postdoctoral researcher, Dr. J. Brandon McClimon, offered his expertise on solid lubricants in the May 2022 issue of Tribology & Lubrication Technology, an STLE publication. Read the cover story, titled “Solid lubricants: Research into the molecular mechanisms” here.

The E. Richard Booser Scholarship, awarded by the Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers (STLE), is awarded to high-achieving undergraduates who wish to pursue graduate degrees or a career in tribology. Daniel Delghandi is the recipient of the 2021-2022 scholarship.

The STLE Philadelphia chapter awarded individual scholarships to undergraduate research assistant, Daniel Delghandi, and doctoral student, Parker LaMascus, in recognition of their research in tribology.

Dr. Danny Sánchez joins the Carpick group with support from the the ASEE Engineering Postdoctoral Fellowship (eFellows) and the Penn Provost’s Postdoctoral Fellowship.

The Nanotechnology Recognition Award “recognizes members of NSTD for outstanding scientific and technical contributions in the science of fabrication, characterization, and fundamental research employing nanometer-scale structures, scanning probe microscopy, technology transfer involving nanometer-scale structures, and/or the promotion and dissemination of knowledge and development in these areas.” Read more about the award in Penn Engineering Today.
